Shillong, Sep 21: Nagaland defeated Meghalaya by seven wickets in the Plate Group of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Nadiad, Gujarat, today.
Meghalaya had no time to rest after their eight-wicket win over Mizoram yesterday and that might have taken its toll on the players.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Meghalaya actually put up a decent total on the board, making 246/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Opening batsman Raj Biswa top-scored with 71, while there were also half-centuries for two of Meghalaya’s professional players – Yogesh Nagar (58 not out) and Gurinder Singh (56).
However, Meghalaya’s bowlers couldn’t make much headway against Nagaland, with the latter’s professional KB Pawan scoring an unbeaten 113 to lead his side to victory as Nagaland reached 247/3 in 47.3 overs.
Sylvester Mylliempdah (1/11), Abhay Negi (1/26) and Singh (1/33) were Meghalaya’s wicket-takers.
Meghalaya will next face Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. Arunachal are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Sikkim by 49 runs today. They had beaten Mizoram by four wickets on Wednesday.
