Shillong, Nov 14: Sohryngkham SC defeated Mylliem SC 5-2 in a huge upset in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day was a more mundane 2-1 win for Nongrah SC against Lawsohtun SC.
Sohryngkham, a team that hadn’t won any of their first five matches, were able to beat Mylliem a club that, before today, had been challenging for first place. It largely came down to a late hat-trick by Iarboklang Kshiar (80′, 85′, 87′), who struck thrice in the last 10 minutes.
Before that, his team mates Wallam Kharpran (21′) and Winstar Roy Kharpran (40′) had given Sohryngkham a 2-0 lead in the first half before Mylliem pulled one back through Closing Lyngdoh (57′). Then came Iarboklang’s treble to sweep Sohryngkham to victory, though there was a stoppage time goal by Mylliem’s Lamphrang Mukhim (90’+3) as well.
Later, Nongrah’s Evening Tariang (4′) and Mebatskhem Lyngkhoi (87′) scored on either side of Lawsohtun’s Rishanskhem Nongkynrih (47′).
