Shillong, Jul 16: Umlyngka had a brilliant start to their Shillong Sports Association Third Division 2025 campaign with a magnificent 5-1 victory over Imson in Group B at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Earlier, Lumparing and Rynjah traded the lead before their entertaining Group B encounter finished 3-3, while Mawkriah West were able to pip Laitlyngkot 2-1 in Group D.
Umlyngka had five different scorers – Samborlang Nongbsap (5′), Mario Shanpru (24’P) and Anthony Kharkongor (43′) in the first half before Andy Nongkhlaw (70′) and Rodonald Kharbuki (72′) made it a five-star finish. Imson pulled a goal back in the 51st minute – it looked like the goalkeeper put it into his own net after getting a bump from opponent Gregorious Biam but the referee awarded it to the Imson player.
In the early kick-off, Lumparing twice had the lead only for Rynjah to cancel them out. Wansan Nongkhlaw (4′) struck early before Medonbanshan Mylliemngap (22′) tapped in a cross that should’ve been cleared by a Lumparing defender. The scoreline stayed 1-1 until half time but four more goals were added in the second session. Joslang Lyngkhoi (56′) pushed Lumparing in front again only for Rynjah’s Shemkupar Massar (70′) to equalise again.
It then became the turn of Rynjah to get their nose in front, with Cleojust Kshiar (83′) launching himself forwards for a flying header. That would’ve been a remarkable turnaround for Rynjah but Kyrpanglang Mawlong (90’+3) made sure that honours were even with an equaliser for Lumparing in stoppage time.
The last match of the day was the first of Group D. After the first 50 or so minutes went without a strike, Honour Lucky Nongbri (51′) netted for Mawkriah West before team mate Sebious Kharkrang (75′) doubled the lead. Laitlyngkot were given some hope when Ribanbha Majaw (83′) pulled one back but Mawkriah West held on for the win and 3 points.
