Shillong, Oct 13: The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs has announced plans to establish a high performance sports science centre in Shillong to provide world-class training and support for athletes.

The directorate has already floated a request for proposal for the establishment and operation of the centre, aimed at transforming the state’s approach to athletic preparation and performance.

The proposed facility will bring together a comprehensive range of services, including advanced sports science, performance analysis, injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as athlete wellness programmes.

Officials said the centre will leverage modern technology, scientific research and expert guidance to nurture local sporting talent, enhance competitiveness and raise the overall standard of performance among Meghalaya’s athletes.

Once operational, the centre is expected to serve as a cornerstone for athlete development in the North East, bridging the gap between traditional training and modern sports science practices.
