Shillong, Nov 10: Pongtung STSCC emerged as the champions of the 5th Kiw Sing Memorial Football Tournament in an exciting final against Mawshun SCC on Saturday.
Pongtung won the match 3-0 thanks to a second half hat-trick from their star player Badaplang Lyngshiang.
Both teams displayed strong performances in the first half, keeping the game goalless despite several close chances.
The tournament is organised by Pongtung STSCC for clubs from within the Riwar Mihngi and Plielad areas. It aims to foster unity and promote young sporting talent across the region. With 32 village teams participating, it remains one of the biggest and most exciting football tournaments in the area.
Pongtung reached the final with a 1-0 win against Lapalang SC in the semifinal on 1st November. Two days before, Mawshun made it through to the title match by pipping Nongthymmai SC 1-0 in a penalty shootout after neither side was able to score in open play.
