Shillong, Oct 31: Meghalaya played their first plate group match of the U-23 Men’s One-Day Trophy against Nagaland in Cuttack today, winning a thrilling game by four runs
After winning the toss Meghalaya chose to bat first and put up a total of 228/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Nagaland were then bowled out for 224 in 50 overs.
Raghav Kapur (pictured) struck a century, out for exactly 100 off 137 deliveries after coming in at number four. He put on 126 runs for the fifth wicket in partnership with Yogesh Tiwari (35).
Anish Charak then added a quickfire 35 runs off just 20 balls with one four and three sixes (the only maximums of the innings) to take Meghalaya to 228/6, with 49 runs coming off the last six overs.
Meghalaya used as many as eight bowlers in the chase, with Arbin Singh (3/29) being the most successful. Aditya Verma (2/20), Charak (2/38) and Akash Choudhary (2/53) picked up a brace of wickets each. Elchiang Momin (1/21) also claimed a wicket.
With Nagaland needing five runs to win off the last ball, Choudhary bagged the wicket of Ujwal Rai (23) for Meghalaya to win the super close contest.
