Shillong, Mar 29: Vanessa Nongsiang has been asked to appear for the India U-18 women’s basketball national selection camp in preparation for the FIBA Asia SABA Qualifiers 2026.
This was announced by Touchline Basketball Academy on Saturday night.
Vanessa, a student of Pine Mount School, had represented Meghalaya at the 75th Youth and Junior Nationals in 2025.
She is the first women’s basketball player from Meghalaya to be called up and her selection is a testament to her dedication, discipline and consistent performance. The national camp will serve as the final selection platform for the Indian team set to compete at the upcoming qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the Basketball Federation of India has informed the Meghalaya Basketball Association that Wanlambok Iawphniaw, Secretary of the MBA, has been nominated as the team manager for both the U-18 men’s and women’s teams at the SABA (South Asian Basketball Association) qualifiers, which will be held in Sri Lanka from 6th to 10th May.
