Shillong, Aug 23: Meghalaya lost to a National Cadet Corps (NCC) team from Mizoram 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the U-17 Girls’ Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026 at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi today.
Meghalaya qualified for the quarterfinals with a powerful run in Group D, winning all four of their matches against Chandigarh, the International Schools Sports Organisation, Madhya Pradesh and DNH&DD.
However, the quarterfinals once against proved to be too much for Meghalaya; the state’s U-17 girls’ teams have reached the knockout round every year since 2022 and exited in the QFs each time.
Meghalaya were represented at the tournament this year by Little Star Higher Secondary School of Eastern West Khasi Hills, who emerged as the state champions in July.
Wandari Rani was the team’s top scorer with 8 goals in all, including two hat-tricks.
