Shabong was spotted training with Bagan in Kolkata as they ready themselves for the postponed AFC Cup, their first match of which is on 18th August. Yesterday, as the team landed in the Maldives, the Kolkatan side revealed that the midfielder was in their squad for the competition.

The Meghalayan has played for Indian Arrows in the I-League for the past two seasons, making a total of 28 appearances for the developmental side. In all but one he was picked in the starting eleven and he played in all 16 games in 2019-20 and 12 out of 14 last season.

Shabong was also an integral part in India’s run to the quarterfinals of the Asian Football Confederation’s U-16 Championship 2018 in Malaysia.

After gaining vital experience in the I-League and in playing for the junior Indian team, this could be the next step in the 18-year-old’s evolution as a star footballer.
