Shillong, Mar 18: Meghalaya rode on a stupendous bowling performance by captain Debasmita Dutta to beat Mizoram by eight wickets in their first match of the U-23 Women’s One-Day League in Cuttack today.
Dutta tore through the Mizoram batting order, claiming nine wickets for just three runs in six overs. Deiphibapynshngai Lyngdoh Mawnai picked up the other wicket (1/9) as Mizoram, who chose to bat after winning the toss, were bowled out for 43 in 21 overs.
Meghalaya lost a couple of early wickets in the chase, but Suruti Kumari Ray (7 not out) and Dutta (21 not out) steered Meghalaya home to victory in 14.3 overs.
Meghalaya will next take on Nagaland tomorrow at the same venue.
