Shillong, May 30: Ri-Bhoi took a first-day lead at the State Level Chief Minister’s Inter-School Athletic Meet at the JN Sports Complex here today.
Although the medals table sent to the press by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs shows Ri-Bhoi with four gold medals, the accompanying list of results has Ri-Bhoi with five wins: in U-14 girls’ shot put, U-18 boys’ high jump, U-14 boys’ long jump, U-14 boys’ shot put and U-18 girls’ high jump.
Going by the list of results, Ri-Bhoi have five gold, four silver and four bronze, which puts them ahead of East Khasi Hills, who have won three gold, three silver and one bronze. West Jaintia Hills are third with two gold medals and fourth are North Garo Hills, who have won one gold and silver medal each, as well as four bronze.
South West Khasi Hills are fifth with a solitary gold. Three districts follow with one silver and bronze apiece – West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills. South Garo Hills, meanwhile, have bagged a silver.
Two new meet records were set today. First was Melibad Kro, of Ri-Bhoi, who attained a distance of 7.54m in the U-14 girls’ shot put. Then, in the U-14 girls’ long jump, Avelyne F Khriam, of East Khasi Hills, attained a distance of 4m.
Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Pravin Bakshi was the chief guest on the day and formally opened the meet, which will end on Friday.
