Shillong, Jul 24: Nikelson Bina scored the fastest goal of the First Division season for Nongrim Hills here today, but Mawlai brushed that aside and won 2-1 to register their first points of 2018.
Bina scored in only the fifth minute to put Nongrim ahead, but Mawlai came back thanks to goals from Andy CK Mawphlang in the 35th minute and Robert Khongriah, who made the switch to Mawlai from Green Age Club before the start of the season, in the 55th to seal victory in the second round match.
Mawlai had lost their opener 2-0 to Imson, while Nongrim had beaten Sohryngkham 3-1 in theirs.
In all of 2017’s First Division no team managed to overcome a deficit and win, but Mawlai have done just that in only the seventh match of 2018.
Tomorrow it’ll be Rising FC versus Laban at 4PM at the JN Stadium.
