Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya lost their final plate group match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy by 74 runs to Puducherry in Anand, Gujarat, today.
Puducherry won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that paid off nicely as they racked up a total of 324/5 in their 50 overs, with an unbeaten 136 runs made by PK Dogra.
Three Meghalaya bowlers had economy rates of over seven runs per over as Puducherry’s batsmen had a fine time of it in their innings.
Mark Ingty bagged 2/75, while Dipu Sangma (1/21), Gurinder Singh (1/50) and Raj Biswa (1/58) taking the other wickets.
In the chase Meghalaya’s first three batsmen all got into double figures but couldn’t progress much further.
Yogesh Nagar and Gurinder then combined to put on a 133-run partnership, with Nagar ending the innings unbeaten on 109. Gurinder was dismissed for 72.
Meghalaya ended on 250/5 in their 50 overs. The team will now return to Meghalaya after four wins and four defeats.
