Shillong, Jul 4: Shanborlang Marbaniang and Arthur Cornelli Khongioh won gold medals in their respective events of the 2nd Elite Men’s East Zone Boxing Championship, which concluded here today.

Marbaniang won gold in the flyweight category, while Khongioh won the welterweight final.

The two-day championship was held at the U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium and was organised by New Era Sports, Socio and Cultural Club in collaboration with the Meghalaya Boxing Association. 

The Boxing Federation of India has divided the country into eight zones, with Meghalaya, West Bengal, Assam and Sikkim in the East Zone. All states were represented at the championship.

The other five Meghalaya boxers took home silver medals from the championship. They are Siewdorlang Syiemiong (light fly), Pynskhem L Nonglait (bantam), Baiamutlang Sungoh (light), Lurshai Nongkhlaw (light welter) and Erick Khongsit (middle).

Paul Lyngdoh MDC was the chief guest on the second day.
