Shillong, Aug 10: The new Smit centre got its matches in the Meghalaya Baby League 2019 underway today.
The Smit centre is part of the Greater Shillong zone in this season’s expanded Meghalaya Baby League.
Today saw Laitkor Flamingos take on Smit Grassroot Zebras. Thirty-three goals in all were scored in the four matches played, with Smit Grassroot Zebras winning in the U-7 category, Laitkor Flamingos winning the U-9 and U-11 categories, while the U-12 ended in a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, in Polo Ground, the Western Conference of the Shillong centre began today at Third Ground, with new team Onsides Gibbons winning three matches over Nongthymmai GC Scorpions in the U-7, U-9 and U-11 categories, while the Scorpions claimed victory in the U-12 category.
Later, Pay For Right Flying Squirrels and Mawlai Raptors, both of which are new teams in the MBL family, engaged in four entertaining matches. The Flying Squirrels came through as the victors in the U-7 category, but the Raptors then won the U-9 match. The Flying Squirrels U-11 team then won against their opponents before the final match in the U-12 category ended 2-2.
Touchline NE Cubs and JNS Jaguars finished off the day, with the Jaguars winning the U-9, U-11 and U-12 matches, while the Cubs won the U-7 match.
