Shillong, Oct 27: Mawkhar SC held a felicitation programme here on Saturday for players, officials and wellwishers after a highly successful 2019 season, in which they qualified for next year’s Shillong Premier League.
The programme was held at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall in Mawkhar and was presided over by club President Ransom Sutnga and attended by members of the Dorbar Shnong Mawkhar, Seng Kynthei Mawkhar, Seng Samla Mawkhar and others. Local MLA Adelbert Nongrum and MDC Pynshngain Syiem were also present.
Mawkhar had been promoted to the 2019 First Division from the previous year’s Second Division, which they had won, but their campaign didn’t get off to the best of starts, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Smit. That, as it happened, was their only loss of the season, as they went on to win five and draw two of their other seven matches to finish at the top of the table with 17 points and gain promotion to SPL 2020.
Mawkhar also participated in the U-18 SPL this year for the first time and finished a commendable fourth, behind only the Big Three of Shillong football – Shillong Lajong, Rangdajied United and Langsning.
