Shillong, Oct 29: A hat-trick by substitute Dawanchwa Challam helped propel Rangdajied United to a 6-0 victory over Laban in the Shillong Premier League at the JN Stadium here today.
This was only the second hat-trick of the season, with Challam’s team mate Donlad Diengdoh scoring the first against Langsning earlier this month.
In the first leg Rangdajied were runaway 5-0 victors over Laban on 27th August.
Today Oresterwell Langshiang scored the opener in the 27th minute followed by Rangdajied’s second in the 37th by Chanmetre Thma. Challam then scored in the 57th, 65th and 66th minutes. Thma added one more in the 73rd.
Langshiang score after it looked like Bisu Jana, Laban’s goalkeeper, fumbled a collection, giving the former the opportunity to pop the ball into the net. Until this point it looked unlikely that Rangdajied would score given that they seemed to lack ideas going forward. Thma then found his own way through by going deep on the right an angling his shot to perfection past Jana to make it 2-0 in the first half.
Thma turned provider for Challam’s first goal with a neat cross that was headed in by the No. 15 at the far post. Fellow substitute Samson Nongrum then executed some good work to allow Challam to score again and a minute after the restart he completed his hat-trick after Laban gave away the ball in their own half. He now has five goals for the season.
RUFC then earned a corner in the 73rd minute. It was taken short and Thma headed in the resulting cross.
This was Laban’s second straight 6-0 defeat, going down by the same margin to Shillong Lajong six days ago. Laban remain in bottom spot on six points. Rangdajied, meanwhile, move back to the top of the standings with 20 points, by Lajong (18) have a game in hand.
On Thursday Ryntih are scheduled to face Langsning at 2:45PM.
