Shillong, Aug 20: Ryntih have continued with their signing spree and announced today that goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu (pictured centre No. 32) has made the switch to the club from Shillong Lajong.
Chalieu had been with Lajong for several seasons and was part of the squad that won both the Shillong Premier League and Meghalaya State League titles last year. The 20-year-old also has 12 I-League caps under his belt, having featured in a majority of SLFC matches in their last season of the league back in 2018-19.
He also represented his native Nagaland in the Dr T Ao Trophy in January and captained SLFC to the title of the national U-18 Youth League in 2017-18.
Chalieu’s skills between the sticks in the MSL final last December were of note as he kept out two Rangdajied United spot kicks to help his team lift the title.
In fact, Ryntih now have both goalkeepers from that match within their ranks after they signed Padam Chettri from Rangdajied earlier this month. When the team get to play football again (put on hold right now, of course, because of the coronavirus pandemic) there is sure to be healthy competition between the pair to be first choice goalie.
Meanwhile, in the past few days Ryntih have also announced an extension of contracts with several of their players, including their top scorer from SPL 2019 – Sheen Sohktung – as well as Reson Malngiang, Robert Khongjoh, Dameki Khongstia, Restomwell Khriam, Ronnie Nongbri, Maitshaphrang Kharumnuid, Allen Lyngdoh Nongbri, Ebormi Buam, Bickyson Kharkongor and several others.
