Shillong, Feb 23: East Jaintia Hills completed a 104-run victory over All Jaintia Cricket Association in Nongpoh today, while North Garo Hills defeated South Garo Hills by an innings and 105 runs in Mendipathar in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s Inter-District U-23 Men’s Cricket Tournament.
Resuming their second innings of the Zone 1 match on 35/2, EJH were all out for 144, which meant that AJCA needed 235 for victory on the second and final day. Passang Sherpa top-scored with 35 but the team were pegged back by the good bowling of Nehlang Pariat (3/18) and Daowam Passah (3/28).
Despite the best efforts of AJCA, however, there were too many runs to get and they were dismissed for 130, which was still an improvement on their first innings score of 74 made yesterday. Dathrangki Pariat contributed 35 runs to the cause, while Sherpa bagged 3/13 in EJH’s victory.
Meanwhile, in Zone 2, South Garo Hills resumed their second innings on 59/6, still needing 142 runs to make NGH bat again. However, the SGH boys could only add a further 37 to their overnight score and were dismissed for a total of 96. Gilseng Momin claimed a five-for, finishing with figures of 5/13, while Tengsuang G Momin took 3/17.
