Shillong, Mar 5: Tura District Cricket Association A took a commanding lead over North Garo Hills on the first day of the Zone 2 final of the Inter-District U-23 Men’s Cricket Tournament in Mendipathar today.
At stumps TDCA-A had made 292 in response to NGH’s first innings total of 65, giving the former a lead of 227.
NGH’s reasonable start in the morning was ended with a string of wickets for Manish Sharma, who grabbed 6/11. From three wickets down with the score on 57, NGH collapsed, losing their remaining seven wickets for just 8 runs. Elchiang Momin (2/15) and Meghlin Momin (2/17) were the other wicket-takers, while Dairo A Marak top-scored with 23.
The TDCA-A innings saw contributions from almost all batsmen – nine of them got into double figures. Two players – Frickey Sangma (51) and Ronie Marak (53*) – struck half-centuries, with the latter doing so after coming in at No. 10. Chibasal G Momin (3/35) and Aditya Singh (3/38) returned the best figures for NGH.
Although no batsman could push on for a truly big score, all these contributions added up to a hefty 292 and TDCA-A will hope to be able to bowl out their opponents cheaply tomorrow to secure victory.
