Shillong, Jun 23: The Meghalaya State Olympic Association celebrated International Olympic Day today through various programmes to mark the occasion while having to adapt it to the conditions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Olympic Day marks the birth of the International Olympic Association, which was founded on 23rd June 1894. The special day, however, only came to be celebrated as Olympic Day from 1948 onwards.
MSOA executive council members celebrated the day in similar ways to other state associations in the country, the Indian Olympic Association and all those others affiliated to the International Olympic Committee.
Working President of the MSOA informed through a press release that food packets were distributed by MSOA officials to Shillong Traffic Police personnel on duty as a gesture of appreciation to the frontline workers fight against Covid-19. In the afternoon, oximeters, PPE kit and N95 facemasks were handed over to the staff of Shillong Civil Hospital.
Discussions on Olympic Day were then held on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
