Shillong, Oct 31: Kolkata’s Samridh Sen’s consistent run continued as he fired a two over 72 to take the lead yesterday in round one of the Shillong Amateur Open Golf 2021, which is being held at the magnificent par 70 Shillong Golf Course.
Sen, who is riding on the confidence of five top-ten finishes in his five starts this season, displayed spectacular golf on his way to the clubhouse to go two shots clear off his nearest competitor, Abhishek Mitra.
A veteran in the field, Mitra, who made winning a habit playing in the mid-amateur division, followed the leader home in second in the amateur category while leading in mid-amateur after carding a round of four over 74.
Jakir Hussain and KI Singh both returned with score of five over 75 to jointly take third place after the first round. With a round to spare, it’s still anybody’s game considering how packed the leaderboard is in the amateur division.
Another golfer who should fancy his chances in this category is one of the favourites in the field, Gaurav Bajaj, who signed off with a round of seven over 77.
In the senior category, Benu Malakar brought out his best as he carded a round of 78 to take the sole lead. SN Chowdhury and Hector Marwein both shot 82 today to share second spot. Marwein took the lead in the super senior division followed by Anil Pargal and K Indrajit, who shot 85 and 86 respectively.
In the ladies division, K Brahma carded 93 to take the lead while Jyoti Agarwal’s 94 gave her sole second position.
In the junior category 1, Da I Paya Dkhar and Shivaai Agarwal were declared joint winners and in junior category 2 Aryan Bajaj and Sharanya Bajaj claimed the winner and runner-up positions.
