Shillong, Nov 8: Meghalaya’s opening pair of Kishan Lyngdoh (pictured left) and guest player Chirag Khurana (right) carried their bats as the team defeated Tripura by 10 wickets in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament Plate Group match in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, today.
Chasing 147 for victory, Meghalaya reached the target in exactly 18 overs. This is a new record for the highest partnership for any wicket by a Meghalaya pair in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, surpassing the 120 made by Yogesh Tiwari and Punit Bisht against Mizoram in the 2020-21 season.
Lyngdoh faced 62 deliveries in his unbeaten 85, with seven fours and three maximums, two of which he clattered over the point boundary and another over cover. Khurana, meanwhile, was a touch more patient but still scored at more than a run-a-ball in his 54 not out off 47 balls.
This was Lyngdoh’s second half-century of the campaign; he had made 52 in the victory over Mizoram last week.
Earlier, all-rounder Khurana took the wickets of the two openers as Meghlaya restricted Tripura to 146 all out. Khurana took 2/21, with Akash Kumar Choudhary claiming 2/24. Dippu Sangma (1/36) and Chengkam Sangma (1/37) were the other wicket-takers. There were also four run outs as Tripura withered away.
Meghalaya’s last match will be against Arunachal Pradesh tomorrow.
