Shillong, Dec 19: The North East Olympic Association met in New Delhi today on the sidelines of the annual general meeting of the Indian Olympic Association.
The group discussed the development and promotion of sports in the North East, especially relating to Shillong’s hosting of the second North East Olympics in September-October 2022, NEOA Treasurer and Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President John F Kharshiing said in a release today.
Kharshiing briefed the gathering on the Meghalaya government’s commitment to fully supporting the NE Olympics as part of the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations. A “clear, fine print roadmap and details” will be provided to the NEOA members in the coming year.
Meanwhile, the NEOA was also briefed on the proposal for a North East Olympic Youth Games. The Nagaland Olympic Association also invited all members to attend the opening ceremony of the South Asian Cross Country Championship, to be held on 15th January in Kohima.
A formal meeting of the NEOA will be held in Kohima at the same time and then again in Shillong in March to further discuss the promotion of Olympic sports and youth affairs in the North East, Kharshiing added.
