Shillong, Mar 13: Sputnik Spartan and Sporting CC will meet in the final of the Shillong Cricket Association’s First Division on Tuesday after both came through their respective semifinals over the weekend at Polo Ground here.
By finishing as the final two, both teams have also qualified for next season’s Super Division.
Yesterday, Sporting CC defeated Riatsamthiah by five wickets. Riatsamthiah made 160 all out after winning the toss and batting first. Shembhalang Pyngrope and Shaisngi Lyngdoh both made 39 runs each. Santosh took 3/30 and Manish 2/23.
In reply, Sporting CC lost five wickets but reached the target in 26.2 overs. Man-of-the-match Rahul Hazarika top-scored with 79. Wellmanson Passah claimed 2/34 in a losing cause.
Meanwhile, today saw Sputnik Spartan win by 13 runs against Sunrise XI. The latter won the toss and chose to field first. The Spartans scored a competitive 203/6 in 35 overs. Prashant (59) Supriya (51) both hit fifties and at better than a run-a-ball. Joydeep (2/27) was the bowler with the best figures.
In the chase, Sunrise were all out for 190 in 31.1 overs. Donlang managed 31 and Arbind 31, with Sputnik Spartan’s Aravind (pictured) claiming 5/32 and he was thus named man-of-the-match.
