Shillong, Aug 10: The second edition of the North East Olympic Games, which Shillong will host, will begin on 30th October and conclude on 6th November.
The first coordination meeting of the North East Olympic Organisation Committee and North East Olympic Association was held here today at the Main Secretariat.
Representatives from the Olympic associations of all eight states attended (those of Sikkim and Tripura through video conference).
Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President and Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh (who is also ex-officio President of the MSOA) received the NEOA flag. Senior officials from the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs were also present.
As part of the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya’s statehood, the state government has agreed to support hosting the NE Olympics. It is understood that the DSYA will take more of a leading role in the organisation of the Games after the state government was left unhappy by some of the negative news stories to have emerged from the Meghalaya Games earlier this year.
Meghalaya will be aiming to make the most of holding the event on their own turf. In the first edition of the NE Olympics, in 2018, the state only finished sixth in the medals table.
