Shillong, Oct 9: Meghalaya’s U-17 boys twice took the lead but were denied a semifinal berth after losing on penalties in a see-saw battle with Nagaland in the last-eight of the Subroto Cup in New Delhi today.

Meghalaya’s U-14 boys and U-17 girls’ teams had also bowed out in their respective quarterfinals.

Pool G toppers Nagaland conceded early to Meghalaya, who had dominated Pool H, but then found the equaliser in the 68th minute.

Meghalaya, represented by St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, again took the lead in extra time only to see Nagaland cancel it out and full time ended 2-2.

The match then went to a tiebreaker and the Meghalaya boys’ hearts were crushed.
