Shillong, Nov 19: Meghalaya got off to a rollicking start against Jammu & Kashmir on the first day of their third U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match in Mangaldai, Assam, today.
Having dismissed J&K for 296 after winning the toss and fielding first, Meghalaya went at more than 5 runs an over to post 63/2 at stumps, trailing by 233 in their first innings.
Mrinal Das thundered with the bat, hitting eight fours in a 27-ball innings that yielded 40 runs. The only thing he will regret is getting out less than five overs before the end of play. Mrityunjay Bharali, meanwhile, was 17 not out at stumps.
Earlier, Navin Kumar Ray claimed 4/66 and Bosrang R Marak 3/60 to finish as Meghalaya’s most successful bowlers of the day. Jeremiah Lyngdoh Kynshi (1/2) bagged a wicket in the only over he bowled, while Bharat Gurung took 1/45 and Das 1/29.
In all, nine bowlers were used as J&K batted for 76.1 overs. The Meghalaya players also had to stay on their toes in the field because as many as eight batters were out caught.
