Shillong, May 6: Lorenza Songthiang won a bronze medal for India in the Pankration World Championship, which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 2nd to 4th May.

Pankration is akin to modern mixed martial arts, though the name goes back to Ancient Greece.

Songthiang, a fourth semester college student, was one of nine Indians at the championship, where India won a total of four bronze medals.

Songthiang and one other fighter from the country qualified for the next World Combat Games in Pankration, which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October.
