Shillong, Oct 25: Meghalaya’s winless streak in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 T20 tournament continued today with a five-wicket loss to Haryana in Jaipur.
Meghalaya made 94 all out in 19.1 overs after their opponents won the toss and opted to field first. Haryana then made 96/5 in 16.3 overs to win.
After several innings of low scores, Meghalaya guest player Nahul Verma found form with a knock of 43 from 34 balls, which included five fours. However, just one other batter stuck around for any length of time and that was No. 7 Riboklang Hynniewta, who managed a respectable 19 from 28 deliveries, his highest score in this format at the domestic level.
The second innings saw Meghalaya’s bowlers not allow those of Haryana to really settle either but they did not have nearly enough runs to defend. Guest player Rajesh Bishnoi, after getting out for duck while batting, made amends with the ball as he claimed 2/13 in 4 overs. Chengkam Sangma (1/17 in 2) and Akash Kumar Choudhary (1/18 in 3) were the other wicket-takers.
Meghalaya will be involved in their final match of the tournament against Baroda on Friday.
Meanwhile, yesterday, also saw Meghalaya lose their latest match in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy to Bengal by eight wickets. Made to bat first after losing the toss, Meghalaya managed to bat the full 20 overs but were limited to just 43/7, with Rubi Chettri (12 not out) and Luiza Tamang (12) the joint top scorers.
Rebeldalis Syiemlieh (1/8 in 1.5) and Ajima Sangma (1/8 in 2) were the only wicket takers as Bengal knocked over the required runs in 7.5 overs.
Meghalaya will next take on Chandigarh tomorrow.
