Shillong, Dec 7: Sohryngkham SC left it late but ultimately came up with the goods to beat Nongkrem SC 2-1 in Group A of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2023 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day, in Group B, also ended 2-1 in favour of Nongrah SC over Laitkyrhong SC.
Before today’s results, each of the teams involved were in second and third positions of their respective groups, all on 7 points each.
With victory, Sohryngkham have moved to first place in Group A, tied on 10 points with Mawtawar SC but with head-to-head putting them in front (goal difference coming into play only if H2H doesn’t separate two tied sides).
Nongrah, now also with 10 points, sit comfortably in second place in Group B, trailing behind Pohkseh SC, who have 13 points.
Today Sohryngkham had to come from behind to win as they conceded in the 10th minute to Nongkrem’s Pynshai Kharsyntiew. Iarbok Kshiar then equalised in the 70th and Wanbok Dkhar then netted 3 points with an 88th minute goal.
The other game saw Dawandappura Pathaw (1′) score one of the fastest goals of the season for Nongrah, while Kerionald Pyngrope added a second in the 53rd minute. Dawandappura is Nongrah’s most consistent scorer, finding goals in each of the last four outings and he is this season’s top scorer with six goals at the moment.
Learningstar Warlarpih (74′) then reduced the margin for Laitkyrhong but they couldn’t find an equaliser and 2-1 in favour of Nongrah was how it ended.
