Shillong, Dec 12: Laitlyngkot SC jumped off the bottom of Group A and up to third place in the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2023 at First Ground, Polo, today.

Meanwhile, in Group B, it was a clash between neighbours Smit and Umphrup, which the latter won 4-2.

In the afternoon kick-off, Laitlyngkot blanked Marbisu SC 2-0 with goals from Sebastian Nongrum (53′) and Tiplut Khongmuid (55′).

Umphrup led throughout once they took the lead in the 26th minute via Freddy Kharbyngar. Nangseiboklang Lyngdoh Nongbri doubled the lead in the 34th but Smit pulled one back five minutes later through Kalbest Pathaw.

Nangseiboklang netted his second goal in the 65th minute only for Smit to score soon after once again, this time through Balajied Lyngwa (67′). However, Umphrup were not going to be denied victory and found a fourth goal thanks to Wallambor Kharumnuid (81′).

It’s been another difficult season for Smit, who were relegated from the First Division last year but at least they survived the drop this time.
