Shillong, May 15: Nongthymmai Sports & Cultural Club will conduct football trials for the upcoming Shillong Premier League 2024 season on 17th and 18th May.
The trials will be held at Madan Nongthymmai. Interested players can report directly at the ground on 17th May at 9AM or 18th May at 10AM.
They should also bring their own football gear and kit. Further information can be sought from club officials on the following mobile numbers: 8787690428, 9863091116, 9774107329. This was informed through a press release today signed by club General Secretary John Cajee.
Nongthymmai had a difficult (to put it mildly) introduction to the SPL in the 2023 season, finishing seventh out of eight teams with one win (against bottom side Nangkiew Irat SC) and six losses. However, given the truncated nature of the league this season, it was decided by the Shillong Sports Association and the clubs that there would be no relegation in 2023, allowing Nongthymmai and Nangkiew Irat a free pass.
Having watched them all season, they did have a few bright spots but some of their squad choices seemed questionable and they looked pretty fatigued by the second half of almost every match – Nongthymmai conceded 21 goals in seven games (more than any other team), with an astonishing 16 of these coming in the second half.
It’s no wonder that they want to put the experience behind them and crack on with rebuilding their team.
