Shillong, Nov 7: There was bad news for Meghalaya after Kmoin Wahlang and Wandashisha Dewkhaid were denied visas to travel to Australia where they were meant to take part in this month’s 13th Pan Pacific Masters Games 2024.
The pair of long distance runners had received plenty of government and private financial support, not to mention the best wishes of the entire state, to get them to the race Down Under but visa hurdles have gotten in their way.
Wahlang is a long distance septuagenarian superstar from Meghalaya who has captured hearts and inspired people around the country.
She and Dewkhaid were meant to represent India through the Pan India Masters Games Federation, which had selected them based on their previous results at domestic events.
Their event is meant to take place on 10th November, giving little time for an appeal or another visa application.
The biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games is organised by Events Management Queensland – an event management company wholly owned by the Queensland’s state government to promote tourism.
