Shillong, Jan 7: Finely L Pariat, Secretary of the Meghalaya Athletics Association, has been elected as the Joint Secretary of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at its election held in Chandigarh today during its Annual General Assembly.
He is the first person from Meghalaya to have been elevated to such a position in the AFI.
“I give thanks first to God who has opened the way for me to be a member, I neer dreamt to rise to such a position. I thank my wife, Balari Lyngskor, and my children Wanda and Rolf for supporting me, I give thanks to all my friends and family members for their support also.”
In 2022, Pariat had been elected as an Associate Vice-President of the AFI. He is also the General Secretary of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
The new President of the AFI is Asian Games shot put medallist Bahadur Singh. The incumbent Senior Vice-President and multiple international medallist Anju Bobby George was reelected to her position.
