Shillong, Apr 9: A multi-day match organised by the Shillong Cricket Association between Sputnik CC and Young Guns CC ended in a draw here recently.

The match featured the two champions of the SCA’s Super Division (Sputnik) and First Division (Young Guns) this season.

Sputnik won the toss and chose to bat first. They amassed 326 all out in 77.5 overs in their first innings, with Tarique Siddique reaching his century before ultimately being dismissed for 103 from 141 deliveries. Amiangshu Sen hit a welcome 63 from 125. Rudra Singh Rathore took 3/42 in 16 overs for the bowling side.

In reply, Young Guns were all out for 248, giving Sputnik a first innings lead of 78. Rudra struck 121 from 203 balls for the top score in the match. Lakhan Singh (4/61 in 20 overs) and Amiangshu (3/42 in 17.5) were the pick of the bowlers.

Batting in the second innings was more difficult for Sputnik as they were dismissed for 160 in 45.3 overs. This time the high score was a mere 31 from 37 balls by Amit Singhania. Mewankitbok Kharpuri impressed with figures of 4/42 in 11.3 overs.

Young Guns were thus set a target of 239 to win but there was little chance of them getting there in the overs available. It was more likely that Sputnik would bowl them out but the youngsters held on and ended the match on 123/7 in 28 overs. Angkit Tamang’s 37 from 38 balls was the top score, while there were two wickets each for Amit (2/5 in 3) and Mridul (2/13 in 4).

Although the match ended in a draw, Sputnik were adjudged winners based on their first innings lead.
