Shillong, Apr 24: The Sports Authority of India’s Shillong centre will launch the ‘Come and Play’ scheme for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17.

The main aim of the initiative is to impart coaching mainly for beginners to encourage participation in sports and for optimum utilisation of the facilities available at the SAI Centre on the NEHU campus by local youth.

Children in the specified age range will have the opportunity to take up any of six sports on offer through the scheme, to begin on 5th May, at a nominal cost. The disciplines are archery, football, athletics, boxing, judo and karate. Seats are limited and admission will be first come, first served.

A specimen application form can be found here and this should be submitted in hard copy by 30th April.

Registered trainees will be issued with an identity card. The fee for boys is Rs 100 per month paid quarterly. The fee for girls and children enrolled in government schools is Rs 35 per month. Complementary membership (without fees) will be given to international sportspersons, national/state medal winners and Below Poverty Line (BPL) trainees.
