Shillong, Oct 15: No play was possible on the first day of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 plate group match between Meghalaya and Mizoram due to a wet outfield.

The game had been scheduled to begin at 8:30AM at the MCA Ground in Polo here but heavy rain over the preceding days left one section of ground close to the JN Stadium soggy.

Ground staff worked throughout the day to try and speed up the drying out process but the umpires Vinod Ingle and Dharmesh Kumar Bhardwaj decided after the 2PM inspection to call it a day.

Dark clouds hovered over the ground in the afternoon threatening more rain. Tomorrow, however, is expected to be sunny.

Despite the lack of action, the Meghalaya Cricket Association did felicitate the umpires, match referee Amit Pathak, senior video analyst Utpal Das and BCCI neutral curator B Talukdar. Representing the MCA was President Nababrata Bhattacharjee, Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria and Apex Council Member Gideon Kharkongor.

Bhattacharjee gave a short speech in the morning before the assembled players and officials and welcomed the Mizoram team to Shillong.
