Shillong, Mar 11: Cheanchi K Sangma produced a splendid half-century but Meghalaya fell short by just 14 runs in their last match of the BCCI’s U-23 Women’s One Day Trophy 2025-26 plate group against Mizoram in Chandigarh today.

Chasing 178 to win, Cheanchi’s unbeaten 60 from 114 deliveries held Meghalaya’s innings together but the team were eventually all out for 163 in 49.2 overs.

Meghalaya needed a win to progress to the plate final but, in the end, Mizoram qualified along with Sikkim.

In the morning Meghalaya won the toss and chose to field first. Blarihun Dkhar (1/48 in 10 overs) took a wicket in the very first over but Mizoram recovered with a 67-run partnership between Saii (50) and Sawmtluangi (32). There were a couple of other promising partnerships but Meghalaya was able to break them before they became overwhelming and the last four wickets fell for the addition of just 5 runs.

Sara Dafica Kharbani returned the best figures – 3/24 – while Indariakor Kharwanniang took 2/42, Monica Singh 1/28 and Cheanchi 1/35.

Meghalaya lost wickets early but Mansi Anand (11) and Indariakor (14) got starts that looked promising. However, there was too much to do for Cheanchi and she ran out of partners in the end.
