Shillong, Sep 9: Meghalaya lost their second match in the Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2025-26 to Sikkim 2-1 yesterday in Nadia, West Bengal.
Meghalaya had also lost their first match in Group D two days prior.
Yesterday Simran Gurung struck twice in the space of four minutes to give Sikkim, who beat Railways in their opener, a two-goal cushion.
Meghalaya’s Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw (64′) came on as a substitute just before half time and scored her state’s first goal of the tournament this year in the second half but hopes of a comeback did not come to fruition.
The Kitbor Kharkongor-coached Meghalaya will play Railways in the last group game tomorrow at 9AM. Railways had lost to West Bengal 7-0 yesterday. This was the same margin that Meghalaya had lost to the hosts and, with Railways having been beaten by Sikkim 2-1 as well, both Meghalaya and Railways are locked on 0 points with the same goal difference (-8), goals scored (1) and goals against (9).
