Shillong, Oct 14: The Shillong Sports Association held its annual general meeting here on 11th October.

It was announced by SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh that the SSA will likely revive the Shillong Games, featuring five disciplines, tentatively by December. Although it has a history of supporting and promoting other sports, the SSA has focused solely on football for as long as TSR can remember.

The AGM was chaired by Lyngdoh and was also attended by all SSA office bearers and representatives of affiliated clubs.

The meeting began with two minutes silence for the late SS Rapthap, an SSA Vice-President, who passed away earlier this year.

The annual general report was then presented by SSA General Secretary Dipshon L Nongbri for 2024-25. The audited financial report for 2024-25 was also presented by SSA Treasurer Prosper Warjri.

Suggestions were provided by members present that individual awards, such as Player of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, etc, be introduced for the SSA’s football tournaments. Currently only Top Scorer and Player of the Final awards are presented at the end of each division.

P Rangslang of Mawpat SC was appointed female representative on the SSA Council. The SSA also assured those present that it will conduct yearly football tournaments for children and youth. These tournaments have been on the SSA calendar every year (except during the Covid-19 pandemic) but have not always been held, typically due to a dearth of time.

Discussions were also held on the implementation of the All India Football Federation’s Central Registration System for players and the regulation by the SSA of tournaments with guidelines to ensure professionalism.
