U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, Round 5
Shillong, Dec 26: Dikshit Parmar struck 100 runs for Meghalaya on the first day of their Round 5 U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Nagaland at the MCA Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.
After two back-to-back defeats Meghalaya are aiming to put on a better show and started out Boxing Day well.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Meghalaya made 250 all out, with Parmar and Mrinal Das (56) putting on 134 runs for the third wicket after the hosts were reduced to 39/2 in the morning.
However, after Das departed Parmar found his batting partners losing their wickets quite regularly and Meghalaya only put on another 77 runs for their last eight wickets.
For the visitors, Daniel claimed the best figures (2-27), with a total of six bowlers being among the wickets on the first day.
Nagaland had to bat for a couple of overs at the end of the day’s play. They saw off the first over bowled by Sudhir Sahani, but left-arm spinner Gavineal Marpna was given the new ball at the other end and bowled Cheide for a duck to leave the visitors on 4/1 at stumps and 246 runs behind Meghalaya.
