Shillong, Jun 3: The U-18 Shillong Premier League, which was scheduled to begin tomorrow, has been postponed until further notice by the Shillong Sports Association (SSA).
In a press release today the SSA said “that in view of the present prevailing situation in Shillong,” namely the ongoing violent standoff between police and protesters in some parts of the city, the 2018 edition of the tournament has to be “deferred to a date to be notified later.”
Although the neighbourhood around Polo Ground has been free of trouble, the tense situation makes it unwise to proceed with the start of the tournament.
Nangkiew Irat and Sawmer had been meant to kick off the league in tomorrow’s first game and we are now left waiting to see when the U-18 SPL will commence and whether rescheduling of the matches will be necessary.
