Shillong, Sep 30: There was no change in Vijay Hazare Trophy fortunes for Meghalaya as they were beaten by eight wickets by Uttarakhand in Vadodara, Gujarat, today.
This defeat follows on from the 108-run loss to Bihar on Wednesday.
Meghalaya changed their squad a bit, taking out Rajesh Tati in place of Sylvester Mylliempdah and dropping Mark Ingty in place of Chengkam Sangma. But after being put in to bat first Meghalaya struggled in the plate group fixture, with their first six wickets falling for just 63 on the scoreboard.
Two of Meghalaya’s professional players – Yogesh Nagar (44) and Gurinder Singh (34) – then put on 66 for the seventh wicket but no other batsman could stick it out after Nagar was dismissed and Meghalaya folded for just 141 in 41.2 overs with the last five wickets going for just 12 runs.
There was no real trouble for Uttarakhand with opener Vineet Saxena carrying his bat in an innings of 66 not out. Uttarakhand took just 31 overs to reach their target, finishing on 143/2.
Gurinder took both of Meghalaya’s wickets. He ended with figures of 2/34 in 10 overs.
Meghalaya will next take on Sikkim on 4th October in Anand, Gujarat, in a game that the former should win; Sikkim have lost all six of their matches so far.
