Shillong, Jul 29: Wahingdoh won their first Shillong Sports Association-organised match for two years by beating Nongumlong 3-1 in the Second Division Group B at Third Ground, Polo, today.
Aristotle Pohshna put Wahingdoh into the lead in the 11th minute and Shemborlang Kharumnuid doubled it in the 36th. Nangiaikara Swer then further extended Wahingdoh’s lead by netting a 47th minute goal.
Wahingdoh couldn’t keep a clean sheet, however, with Nongumlong earning a penalty, which was converted by Nehlang Kharsahnoh in the 84th minute.
After mighty Royal Wahingdoh was folded into Shillong United (now defunct) in 2017 and Wahingdoh reverted to being a neighbourhood team again, the club has struggled. They inherited RWFC’s Shillong Premier League place in 2017 but lost all 14 matches. They were then demoted and lost six out of nine First Division 2018 games, drawing three. The only ray of sunshine during this period was that Wahingdoh won one match in the U-18 SPL 2017 over Malki.
Tomorrow, in Group A, Nongthymmai are scheduled to take on Sohiong at 3:45PM.
