Shillong, Apr 18: Twice defending champions Langsning have named a much-changed 28-member squad for the Shillong Premier League 2019.
With six of their first team players heading off to Ryntih and a couple more to Rangdajied United during the local transfer window, Langsning have had to rebuild their ranks and will field a fairly young squad.
The 2017 and 2018 champions still have within their ranks some formidable players, like Kitboklang Pale (who returns after a spell in the I-League on loan to Shillong Lajong), Kynsaibor Lhuid, Donborlang Nongkynrih and goalkeeper Frolicson Dkhar. Also in the squad is Surjay Kumar Pariyar, a goalkeeper who last featured in Langsning’s unsuccessful campaign during the Second Division League 2017-18.
Pariyar is the oldest player that Langsning have registered for the SPL, but even then is only 27 years old. Sixteen players were born in 2000 or later.
Several of those in the squad have graduated from Langsning’s U-18 team and, with the departure of the club’s more experienced players, we should get to see more of the talented Figo Syndai and Arnesius Marwein.
As ever, the team will be led by coach Hering Shangpliang, who will aim for nothing short of a third successive title. Shangpliang will be assisted by Dapmon Tariang, Sailon Syngkrem and Matheus Khyriem.
Langsning will begin the defence of their title on 24th August versus Ryntih.
