Shillong, Dec 30: Gaurav Bajaj was elected as a member of the governing council of the Indian Golf Union for the 2020-22 term, it was announced by the Meghalaya Golf Promoters’ Society.

The IGU conducted its election of new office bearers on 27th December in New Delhi and Bajaj is the youngest member of the board. The IGU is the apex body for golf in India and is responsible for the promotion and development of the sport.

Bajaj is the President of the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society, the state association for golf, affiliated to the IGU and Meghalaya State Olympic Association.

“He has been instrumental in putting the Shillong Golf Course on the national golf map by hosting prestigious events in association with the Professional Golf Tour of India as well as national junior and amateur events,” the promoters’ society said.

 

Bajaj plans to restart the golf academy by inducting certified coaches and start a ‘Golf in Schools’ programme and host national amateur, professional and junior events and take golf to all parts of the country, the release added.
