Shillong, Sep 13: Damaitphang Lyngdoh has been named in Bengaluru FC’s squad for the ongoing Durand Cup, it was announced by the club yesterday. The Blues will play their first match on 15th September against Kerala Blasters.

Lyngdoh made his senior team debut for BFC on 14th April as he featured in their 5-0 thumping of Tribhuvan Army FC of Nepal 5-0 in the AFC Cup preliminary stage two match.

However, the midfielder was not picked for Bengaluru’s AFC Cup campaign when it began in the Maldives.

The former Indian Super League and I-League champions are fielding a young side in the prestigious Durand Cup, with 10 players yet to make their senior team debut.

“We’re looking at the Durand Cup as a fantastic chance for our young players to get exposure in competitive games, as the tournament has several good teams from the first and second divisions, as well as the teams from the army,” head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli said. “Our young players are getting closer to the first team and maybe after this tournament, we could have more youngsters making a case for a spot in the starting eleven with the first team.”
