Shillong, Oct 14: Shillong Golf Course will play host to the Indian Golf Union’s North East India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship, which will run from 19th to 22nd October.
The tournament is being organised by the IGU, the national federation for golf in India, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society and Shillong Club.
The event will be a national categorized event that carries points in the National Order of Merit for ladies and junior girls and also in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. This is the second time the IGU has scheduled a national event in Shillong.
Through a press release, the IGU expressed its thanks to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Oil India Ltd, Incredible India and IDFC First Bank for supporting this event and thereby promoting the game and identifying champion golfers from the North East.
“Hosting of national events will put the Shillong Golf Course on the national golf map and will also keep the golf course in good shape. The youngsters of the state will also get inspired to take up the game of golf,” MGPS Secretary Anil Pargal said.
