Shillong, Feb 19: Marbisu secured a place in the semifinals of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division with a 2-1 win against Mawryngkneng in Group A at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
The victory means that Marbisu join Mylliem as the two sides to qualify for the last-four stage from the group. Both clubs have 10 points. There is still one match to be played in the group – the postponed fixture between Mawryngkneng (1 point) and Jongksha (5) but neither side have a chance to progress.
Defeat also means that Mawryngkneng will definitely finish at the bottom of the group and will thus be relegated to next season’s Third Division.
Today Seiborlang Nongbri scored a brace for Marbisu (42′, 76′) while Refermer Pale found the back of the net for Mawryngkneng (63′).
